Pentagon lending talks

The Pentagon was reported on September 10, 2026 to be in talks to lend roughly $5 billion to Fluidstack through the Office of Strategic Capital, a lending office launched under the Biden administration to lend to companies working in areas deemed critical to US national security. A loan of that size would be by far the office's largest to date. Fluidstack is being advised on the loan by the bank started by Palmer Luckey. The account rests on people familiar with the matter, and only the lede of the report was retrievable behind its paywall, so the loan's terms, conditions and the capacity it would finance are not established (Source: wsj.com).

The talks are contemporaneous with the Defense Department's statement that it needs significantly more computing capacity and is seeking congressional authority to reprogram $600 million for a classified AI compute center — a figure an order of magnitude smaller than the reported loan.
