Replit is a US software company, founded in 2016, that operates a browser-based integrated development environment (IDE) with hosting and collaboration features. In 2024–2025 it expanded into agentic coding tools, most notably Replit Agent, which generates and deploys applications from natural-language prompts.

Replit Agent
Replit introduced Replit Agent on September 16, 2024, describing it as an AI system for "creating and deploying applications" from natural-language prompts (Source: Raw Sources/Introducing Replit Agent.md). Unlike augmentation tools such as Cursor, Replit Agent handles the full loop of plan, code, run, deploy, and debug within Replit's own hosting environment, making Replit the first cloud IDE to integrate an agentic coding surface into its hosting platform.
Replit competes in the natural-language-to-deployed-app stack with Cursor, Windsurf (now Cognition), GitHub Codespaces, and Vercel AI, among others.
Internal agent deployment
In an interview published August 6, 2026, co-founder and chief executive Amjad Masad said lines of code contributed by Replit's engineers rose 5.8× over the first six months of 2026 after agents were deployed across the business, with per-person code shipped nearly tripling while quality held. Masad described what he called a "self-driving company" in which "a CEO is a kind of glorified router," and said Replit has cancelled or downsized most of its analytics vendors in favour of internally built tools. He said Moonshot AI's Kimi K3 "is actually now a better designer than Claude" within Replit Design. Masad forecast that in three years people will use fewer apps and more agents, and said companies getting smaller and running layoffs is "100% sure" (Source: platformer.news). The productivity figures are the company's own and are not independently verified; lines of code is a volume measure rather than a measure of delivered value. Partnerships
Replit is the subject of an Anthropic case study titled "Replit democratizes software development with Claude on Google Cloud's Vertex AI," which presents Replit as a deployment of Claude running on Google Cloud Vertex AI (Source: Anthropic case study). Through this arrangement Claude reaches tens of thousands of indie developers via Replit. The partnership is part of Google Cloud's effort to position itself in AI-app infrastructure, competing with AWS Bedrock and Azure OpenAI Service.
