In a Wall Street Journal op-ed dated May 20, 2026 (How I Choose Which Cloudflare Employees to Replace With AI), Prince set out a tripartite taxonomy for AI-driven labor restructuring that he attributes to Peter Drucker's The Practice of Management (1954). The taxonomy divides work into builders, who create products; sellers, who sell them; and measurers, who do everything else, a category Prince describes as covering audit, finance, legal, compliance, middle management, operations, and marketing-as-measurement. His central claim is that AI is coming for measurers while builders and sellers remain safe and even expanding.
Prince presented the taxonomy as the rationale for Cloudflare's May 2026 layoff of more than 20% of its workforce, which occurred alongside more than 30% revenue growth and record customer additions. Prince described this combination of growth and layoffs as the first such configuration he could find in U.S. business history. Cloudflare is one of roughly 50 partners in Anthropic's Project Glasswing cybersecurity program.
