ScreenSpot-Pro is a benchmark of GUI grounding: given a screenshot and a short natural-language instruction such as "Refresh the file explorer," the model must output the screen location of the interface element to click. It contains 1,581 tasks on high-resolution screenshots of professional desktop software, and was introduced in the paper "ScreenSpot-Pro: GUI Grounding for Professional High-Resolution Computer Use" by Kaixin Li and seven co-authors from the National University of Singapore, East China Normal University and Hong Kong Baptist University, first uploaded on 3 January 2025 and posted to arXiv on 4 April 2025 ScreenSpot-Pro: GUI Grounding for Professional High-Resolution Computer Use (Li et al., 2025). The best model the authors tested scored 18.9%. By mid-2026 general-purpose frontier models were reported in the 80s without tools, and specialist grounding models occupied the top of the public leaderboard (Source: gui-agent.github.io).
What it measures
Grounding is the step in a computer-use agent that turns a plan ("open the export dialog") into a pixel coordinate. The authors argue that earlier grounding tests covered web pages, phones and everyday desktop use, and that professional applications pose a different problem for three reasons: their interfaces are dense enough that users run them at resolutions beyond what vision-language models handle well; at those resolutions each target is a very small fraction of the image; and working professionals keep documents and other tools open alongside, cluttering the screen. They present the benchmark as a measure of whether a model can locate an element under those conditions, and state that it does not measure planning or task execution ScreenSpot-Pro: GUI Grounding for Professional High-Resolution Computer Use (Li et al., 2025). End-to-end computer use is the subject of OSWorld.
Design
Data collection
The benchmark covers 23 applications in five professional categories plus common tasks in three operating systems. Development and programming: Visual Studio Code, PyCharm, Android Studio, Quartus and VMware Fusion. Creative: Photoshop, Premiere, Illustrator, Blender, FL Studio (listed as "FruitLoops Studio"), Unreal Engine and DaVinci Resolve. CAD and engineering: AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor and Vivado. Scientific and analytical: MATLAB, Origin, Stata and EViews. Office: Word, PowerPoint and Excel. Operating systems: Windows 11, macOS Sonoma and Ubuntu 24.04 ScreenSpot-Pro: GUI Grounding for Professional High-Resolution Computer Use (Li et al., 2025).
People with at least five years' experience in each application recorded the data while doing their normal work. A background screen-capture tool, triggered by a shortcut key, froze the screen so that the expert could draw a box around the element they were about to use and type the instruction on the spot, which the authors say avoids reconstructing intent afterwards. Screens above 1080p (1,920 × 1,080) were preferred, display scaling was turned off, and dual-monitor setups were captured as one image spanning both displays. Each of the 1,581 instructions has its own screenshot ScreenSpot-Pro: GUI Grounding for Professional High-Resolution Computer Use (Li et al., 2025).
Every item was reviewed by at least two annotators for a correct instruction and a single unambiguous target, and boxes were tightened to the clickable region. Targets are labelled text or icon; an element counts as an icon only when no text label accompanies it. Text targets make up 62.6% of the set. On average a target occupies 0.07% of the screenshot area, against 2.01% in the original ScreenSpot ScreenSpot-Pro: GUI Grounding for Professional High-Resolution Computer Use (Li et al., 2025).
Task format
Examples listed in the paper's appendix include the instruction "Blur Dissolve" in DaVinci Resolve (an icon target with a bounding box 249 pixels wide and 31 tall), "Refresh the file explorer" in Visual Studio Code (an icon 30 by 36 pixels), and "choose chord type for 1" in FL Studio (a text target). A worked example in the body of the paper uses "delete file or folder," where a model's first guess landed on a file tab in a background window rather than the button in the foreground file explorer ScreenSpot-Pro: GUI Grounding for Professional High-Resolution Computer Use (Li et al., 2025).
Scoring
A prediction is correct if the predicted point lies inside the annotated box; for models that output a box, its centre is used. The score is the percentage of the 1,581 tasks answered correctly, reported overall and by application, category and target type. The leaderboard reports micro-averages, that is, over all tasks rather than averaging per-application scores, and states that its results are collected with greedy decoding (Source: ScreenSpot-Pro: GUI Grounding for Professional High-Resolution Computer Use (Li et al., 2025); Source: gui-agent.github.io). The paper reports neither a human baseline nor a chance rate.
Versions and variants
ScreenSpot, the predecessor, was released in January 2024 with the SeeClick model by researchers at Nanjing University and Shanghai AI Laboratory. It has more than 600 screenshots and 1,200 instructions from iOS, Android, macOS, Windows and web pages, annotated by four graduate students, and introduced the click-accuracy metric that ScreenSpot-Pro keeps (Source: arxiv.org). ScreenSpot-v2, published with the OS-Atlas model in October 2024, corrected annotation errors its authors found in about 11.32% of ScreenSpot's samples while keeping the number of test items unchanged (Source: arxiv.org). The ScreenSpot-Pro authors describe ScreenSpot as evaluating grounding only "in cropped screenshot areas in easy usages," in contrast to their full-screen captures ScreenSpot-Pro: GUI Grounding for Professional High-Resolution Computer Use (Li et al., 2025).
The paper's appendix adds ScreenSpot-Pro-CN, the same tasks with Chinese instructions, on which the tested models did worse. The paper also proposes ScreenSeekeR, a method rather than a benchmark variant: a planner model (GPT-4o) proposes likely regions, the image is cropped recursively, and a grounding model is applied to the smaller crop ScreenSpot-Pro: GUI Grounding for Professional High-Resolution Computer Use (Li et al., 2025).
Development and maintainers
The authors are Kaixin Li, Ziyang Meng, Hongzhan Lin, Ziyang Luo, Yuchen Tian, Jing Ma, Zhiyong Huang and Tat-Seng Chua. They maintain a combined leaderboard for ScreenSpot-Pro and ScreenSpot-v2; results are added by contacting the first author, and the page notes that the benchmark is also listed among Hugging Face's official benchmarks. As read on 19 September 2026 it held 97 entries, most of them open-weight models fine-tuned for grounding, and does not date individual entries (Source: gui-agent.github.io). The frontier-model results in the tables below come mainly from developers' own system cards and launch posts.
Results
In the paper, the specialist model OS-Atlas-7B led at 18.9%, followed by UGround-7B at 16.5% and Aria-UI at 11.3%; no other model passed 10%, and GPT-4o scored 0.8%. Cropping around a first guess and re-grounding ("ReGround") raised OS-Atlas-7B to 40.2%, and the ScreenSeekeR search to 48.1%, without retraining ScreenSpot-Pro: GUI Grounding for Professional High-Resolution Computer Use (Li et al., 2025). Alibaba reported 43.6% for Qwen2.5-VL-72B in February 2025 (Source: arxiv.org). Frontier developers began reporting the benchmark in late 2025: Google gave 72.7% for Gemini 3 Pro in November and OpenAI 86.3% for GPT-5.2 Thinking with a Python tool in December (Source: deepmind.google; Source: openai.com). Anthropic's figures rose from 57.7% without tools for Claude Opus 4.6 to 87.3% for Claude Mythos 5 in June 2026 (Claude Mythos Preview System Card; System Card: Claude Fable 5 & Claude Mythos 5 (Anthropic, June 2026)).

Interpreting scores
Three settings move a score more than most model differences do. The first is input resolution. Anthropic reported that raising Claude Opus 4.7's image limit from 1,568 to 2,576 pixels per side lifted its no-tools score from 69.0% to 79.5%, and Google reported 72.7% for Gemini 3 Pro at "extra_high" media resolution against 60.5% at "high" (Claude Opus 4.7 System Card; Source: deepmind.google). The leaderboard's "resized" label on a GPT-5 entry reflects the same constraint (Source: gui-agent.github.io).
The second is tool access. The paper's own experiments showed that one crop-and-re-ground step raised OS-Atlas-7B from 18.9% to 40.2%, and a code tool lets a model crop and enlarge regions in the same way. OpenAI states of its own ScreenSpot-Pro result that "without the Python tool, scores are much lower," and Claude Opus 4.6 moved from 57.7% to 83.1% with Python tools (Source: openai.com; Claude Mythos Preview System Card). With tools, Claude Mythos Preview (92.8%) scored above its successor Mythos 5 (90.7%), while without tools the order was reversed (System Card: Claude Fable 5 & Claude Mythos 5 (Anthropic, June 2026)).
The third is the prompt. Anthropic found that including padded image dimensions in the prompt occasionally confused Claude Mythos 5 when it saw the same file at a different resolution on disk, changed the prompt to give unpadded dimensions, and re-ran earlier models (System Card: Claude Fable 5 & Claude Mythos 5 (Anthropic, June 2026)). In Google's four-model comparison GPT-5.1 scored 3.5%, while OpenAI's own figure for GPT-5.1 Thinking with a Python tool was 64.2%; neither source explains the difference.
A grounding score is a component measure. The authors exclude planning and execution by design, so a high score shows that a model can find a named control, not that it can complete a task in the application ScreenSpot-Pro: GUI Grounding for Professional High-Resolution Computer Use (Li et al., 2025).
Limitations and criticism
The authors state one limitation: the benchmark covers grounding only and omits agent tasks of the OSWorld kind, a decision they attribute to "potential legal risks arising from licensing restrictions" on the commercial software involved ScreenSpot-Pro: GUI Grounding for Professional High-Resolution Computer Use (Li et al., 2025). The paper contains a small internal inconsistency, giving GPT-4o's score as 0.9% in one passage and 0.8% in its results table and a later passage; the leaderboard lists 0.8%.
The authors of OSWorld-G, a grounding benchmark from Tianbao Xie and colleagues published in May 2025, argue that the ScreenSpot line reduces grounding to short referring expressions, and that existing evaluations "either lack nuance in their assessment criteria or artificially inflate difficulty through unnatural conditions, such as ScreenSpot-Pro's extreme resolutions that rarely occur in typical computing environments." They describe ScreenSpot-v2 as showing saturation at about 90% accuracy, and propose testing dropdowns, tabs, scrollbars and other context-dependent controls instead (Source: arxiv.org).
The dataset and its annotations are public and the benchmark has no held-out split; most leaderboard entries are models fine-tuned for GUI grounding (Source: gui-agent.github.io).
Use in policy and safety frameworks
ScreenSpot-Pro is reported in the multimodal capability sections of Anthropic's system cards for Claude Mythos Preview, Opus 4.7, Opus 4.8 and Mythos 5, in OpenAI's GPT-5.2 announcement and in Google DeepMind's Gemini 3 Pro evaluation table, in each case as evidence of screen understanding relevant to computer-use products (Claude Mythos Preview System Card; Claude Opus 4.7 System Card; System Card: Claude Opus 4.8 (Anthropic, May 2026); Source: openai.com; Source: deepmind.google). With Claude Mythos 5, Anthropic began supplementing such single-skill tests with agentic multimodal evaluations that it says "better reflect how models are deployed in professional settings" (System Card: Claude Fable 5 & Claude Mythos 5 (Anthropic, June 2026)). None of these documents ties the benchmark to a capability threshold in a frontier-safety framework.
